Help
The 3D images on this website are in QuickTime VR format. If QuickTime is not installed on your computer, your browser should automatically have offered to download the software when entering the home page. If not, you can download QuickTime free of charge from the Apple. The installation is straightforward and a matter of minutes. Visitors on a network may need to contact their system administrator to install the software.
Besides QuickTime, a fairly modern computer and operating system are recommended. For each bird specimen, three different 3D images are available:
Small size: for visitors on a 56K modem. The specimen is displayed at 232 x 364 pixels, without the possibility of panning in vertical direction. The movie is rather heavily compressed to minimize file size.
Medium size: again the specimen is displayed at 232 x 364 pixels, but there are three levels of panning in vertical direction. The movies are less compressed than small sized films. As a result, these images are approximately four to five times larger.
Large size: the specimen is displayed at 464 x 728 pixels with five levels of vertical panning. These uncompressed images are really large and can only be viewed by visitors on fast connections such as university networks or DSL connections. Initially, you may be presented with either a still or blank frame. Please wait until the image has completely downloaded!
