Near-Threatened A jackdaw-sized jay of the canopy of tall lowland evergreen forest and mangrove of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Bangka (nominate leucopterus, with short curly crest-feathers and a white wing-patch), and Borneo (ssp. aterrimus, with elongated crest-feathers and an all-black wing). Subject to the same threats as Platylophus (see elsewhere on this site), and has shown a marked decline in numbers, but tolerates degraded forest, forest edges and shaded plantations and hence probably not immediately threatened.

Remarks
The Borneo bird (ZMA 10824) is ssp. aterrimus, all others are nominate leucopterus.
