Apart from the standard taxonomic information (family, subfamily, genus, subgenus, species, subspecies, author, year, publication, synonyms, original genus, original spelling), the catalogue includes up to date information on the distribution of the species by countries and, for the larger countries (e.g., USA, China), provinces, states, or islands. This is a small group of marine arthropods often referred to as sea spiders. The key makes use of the marvellous illustrations of the rare publication from Sars (1891). Pycnogonids are mostly small animals with a body length ranging from 1 to 10 mm, but specimens of the deep sea, reach more than 5 cm in body length and have a leg span of more than half a meter.
